10 Wiltshire care homes rated exceptional by the CQC

10 care homes in Wiltshire and Swindon have been rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC. According to the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection reports, of more than 100 nursing homes in the county, 10 stood out as exceptional.

CQCs are responsible for monitoring, inspecting and regulating health and social care services to ensure that they meet basic quality and safety standards.

The results of CQC inspections are published on their websiteincluding performance ratings to help people choose care.

Inspectors rate most services on their degree of safety, efficiency, friendliness, responsiveness and good conduct, using four levels:

Remarkable – the service works exceptionally well.
green circle Good – the service works well and meets our expectations.
circle of amber Needs improvement – the service is not working as well as it should and we have told the service how it needs to improve.
red circle Inadequate – the service is malfunctioning and we have taken enforcement action against the service provider.

The care homes included in this list vary from residential homes to nursing homes, which care for people with conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, mental health and addiction, as well as a disability and impairment. The demographic age of patients/residents ranges from 18 to 65 years old.

These care homes were rated exceptional on at least two of the following qualities, and good on the others, giving them the highest rating from the CQC.

  • Safe
  • Effective
  • Kindness
  • Sensitive
  • Well directed

The 5 nursing homes included in the list below received their last full inspection from the CQC from January 2020 to January 2022.

November 2020

  • Wiltshire Heights Care Home, Bradford on Avon, B415 1FD (Remarkably caring and responsive)
  • Ashgrove House Nursing Home, Swindon (remarkably efficient, caring, responsive and well run)

October 2020

  • Argyll House, Chippenham (remarkably well run and responsive)
  • Westwood House, Swindon (remarkably well run, responsive, caring and efficient)

January 2020

  • Hurst House, Swindon (remarkably responsive and caring)

The 5 care homes below received their last inspection in 2018, but were reviewed for inspection by the CQC in February 2022.

This means they have reviewed their nursing home data and found no evidence that an inspection needs to be carried out to reassess their rating at this point.
