A care home in East Devon is launching three new local community grants.
Raleigh Manor care home in Exmouth is launching three grants totaling £30,000 in the name of former Barchester resident Jeanette Gill, who has donated her inheritance to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. The Foundation is now calling on local charities and community groups to apply.
The Jeanette Gill Special Prizes offer a gold prize of £15,000, a silver prize of £10,000 which are both open to groups and a bronze prize of £5,000 open to individuals.
Dr Pete Calveley, CEO of Barchester Healthcare and Chairman of the Foundation, said: “We were extremely humbled that one of our residents made such a generous donation to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. We thought it would be appropriate to create these landmark grants in her honor and memory as a tribute to the lives she helps. The charity does a lot for local communities across the country to combat loneliness and reduce loneliness for many people, and these grants will make a big difference to those in need. We hope to honor his legacy for many years to come.
The Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a registered charity which helps older people and other disabled adults in England, Scotland and Wales. Their mission is to make a difference in the lives of seniors and other adults with physical or mental disabilities; support practical solutions that lead to greater personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity. This year, their goal is to connect or reconnect people with other members of the community and fight loneliness.
The program will reward projects that enrich lives and encourage an active lifestyle through arts, music, sport and culture for older people or adults with disabilities, or those who may have mental health issues.
Raleigh Manor is a purpose-built home that provides 24-hour residential care for seniors, including those with dementia.
