InsurTech Breeze Partners with Appalachian Underwriters for Disability Insurance

Broken, an InsurTech seeking to simplify the way disability insurance is bought and sold, has partnered with an insurance wholesaler Appalachian Underwriters (AUI).

Breeze is an online insurance broker, leveraging industry expertise and technology, the company’s mission is to create a better way to distribute income protection insurance.

The policies offered by Breeze replace part of a policyholder’s regular income and can be used to pay large medical bills, mortgage payments, groceries, and more. Breeze currently offers long-term disability insurance, short-term disability insurance, and critical illness insurance.

The partnership will allow licensed health agents and brokers in partnership with AUI to use Breeze’s turnkey disability insurance platform.

According to Breeze, AUI’s already strong business offering in property and casualty and workers’ compensation insurance will complement the disability insurance offering.

Colin Nabity, CEO and Co-Founder of Breeze, said, “Whether your focus is on home, auto, health or life insurance sales, income protection is a natural next conversation for agents and advisors. We are delighted that Appalachian Underwriters has chosen Breeze to power their disability insurance offerings, and we look forward to supporting their agents.

William Chambers, Director of Digital Partnerships at AUI, added, “We are extremely excited to partner with Breeze to continue our mission to support our agents and partner agencies with various new product solutions and tools that increase efficiency. After seeing great success with our recent entry into the life insurance space, the partnership with Breeze is perfect to represent AUI’s first journey into the healthcare market.

Last year, Breeze closed a $10 million Series A funding round led by Link Ventures with participation from Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank, M25, Fiat Ventures and Invest Nebraska.

Aflac, a provider of supplemental health insurance products, recently launched an enhanced individual short-term disability insurance product Aflac. The new policy aims to help employers better meet the changing needs of their workers amid economic uncertainty and ongoing pandemic challenges.
