Cheverton Lodge retirement home in Islington, London, recently presented Peninim with a check for £750 to be used for a women’s retreat.
Peninim supports women and girls with physical disabilities and those who suffer from lifelong health conditions by providing accessible programs and services designed to improve their lives and promote social integration within the wider community.
They offer workshops, retreats, friendship groups and comparison ships, and strive to offer support internships.
The grant had been made by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity which helps older people and adults with disabilities or mental health issues in England, Scotland and Wales by providing grants to help people connect or reconnect with others in their local community.
The nursing home welcomed Leah Weingarten from Peninim to a small gathering in the house to receive the check and celebrate the awarding of the grant.
Leah Weingarten, a lead volunteer, said: “We are very grateful for the donation from the Barchester Charitable Foundation, it was used for a retreat we organized which was attended by 20 women. For many, it was the first time they could leave their homes since their confinement. »
Earl Elliott, general manager of Cheverton Lodge, said: “We are always keen to show as much support as possible for local charities. Charities like Peninim are so important to our local community and it has allowed women to meet other people, build friendships and enrich their lives.
