Many Americans become disabled on the job and end up suffering a loss of income. Maybe that’s when they decide to look into SSDI.

Qualification for SSDI

To qualify, you must have worked long enough for jobs for which you paid social security contributions.

Normally, the period is ten years.

To qualify for a disability, you must have some type of medical condition. It must be defined as a disability with Social Security.

A disability is defined by Social Security as something that means the following

  • You cannot work and engage in substantial gainful activity because of your condition
  • The work you used to do you can no longer do because of your condition

The disability must cause you to be unable to work given your age, education and experience.
